Cena Jennette : Owner & 200 RYT Instructor
Cena is a born and raised Hatteras Island native who was first introduced to yoga in 2002 at the Wilmington Yoga Center. Her background in gymnastics and cheerleading lead to an immediate love for the physical side of the practice and later the benefits of the mind and soul connection that yoga creates. Upon graduating from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, she moved to San Diego, CA and practiced several different styles of yoga with many different teachers. Cena has received trainings and attended workshops with David Garrigues, Bryan Kest, Kim Zegil, Kristin Cooper-Gulak and Ann Richardson. After 8 years of practicing yoga for herself, she embarked on teacher training and received her 200 RYT certification in multi-style yoga at Chesapeake Hot Yoga in 2010. Cena taught in Charlotte, NC and Jacksonville, FL, until recently moving back to her hometown of Hatteras Island with her husband, also a Hatteras Island local and their two young children. The decision to move home was easy; the struggle for Cena was living without a yoga studio once they moved back. Fortunately, with full support and encouragement from her family things fell into place and Hatteras Yoga was born.
Cena teaches primarily Vinyasa Flow and Power Vinyasa Flow. Students can expect to move through a creative sequence of poses along to an eclectic playlist consisting of anything from The Rolling Stones to Krishna Das and sometimes no music, depending on the day and energy of the class. Each class is different from the last, keeping the class lively and interesting. Cena's teaching style is upbeat and encouraging, as she strives to make the practice of yoga accessible to everyone with a "no judgement" philosophy.
Jenna Baldi : 200 RYT Instructor
Jenna went to her first yoga class 8 years ago in order to "stretch and chill out." She quickly learned that yoga would mean so much more to her. She left that class, and every class since, with a renewed sense of strength and gratitude. As she furthered her practice, she loved the physical work out she got, but was intrigued by the spiritual and emotional exploration she began to experience. After trying different styles and lineages over the the years, Jenna decided she wanted to share her passion for yoga with others. She studied under Lizzy Hoffman in Charlotte and received her 200 RYT in July of 2015. Her style of yoga is challenging with a great emphasis on self-discovery and acceptance. Jenna's classes will push you physically and will encourage you to create space in your life for opportunities you may have never dreamed of. Come and explore the possibilities!
Jessie Taylor: Music & Yoga Instructor
Jessie Taylor has been an active yoga enthusiast since it first sparked her interest at Bally Total Fitness in 2002. Over the past 15 years, Jessie has practiced different types of yoga ranging from Power Yoga, Bikram, Hot Yoga and greatly enjoys the physical and mental benefits of the Vinyasa and Power flows.
On a daily basis, Jessie has been a musician for practically her entire life. Her specialty is violin (25 years), singing, playing guitar and song writing. Jessie has been entertaining for weddings and special events, as well as teaching violin since as early as she can remember. In September of 2015, Jessie and her husband launched Cape Hatteras Music Academy, offering group music classes for toddlers through 6 year olds, and private instrument lessons for violin, guitar, singing, ukulele and cello for children ages 5 and up.
Alongside the musical life, Jessie balances her busy schedule with a regular yoga practice. She always had the thought in the back of her mind to potentially start teaching yoga, due to her interest and knowledge from the past 15 years of practicing. Ironically, in 2017, Hatteras Yoga extended an invite for Jessie to join their team with teaching Kids Yoga classes as well as an adult beginner Vinyasa flow.
